ポルシェ911の中古車をチェックしていますが、現時点ではどのモデルを購入しようという具体的な考えはまだまとまっていません。
996型、997型（特に前期）の価格は非常に魅力的ですが、その反面「IMS問題」「6番シリンダー問題」という部分が気になるのも確かで、ネット上でなにか良い情報はないかと探していて見つけたのが今回の一冊です。
ガソリンスタンドでアルバイトをしていた経験があり、オイル交換やタイヤ交換くらいであれば自分でもなんとかなりますが、それ以上の作業となると専門店にお願いするのがベターだとは思いますが、何の知識もなくお願いするのと、ある程度の知識を持った上でお願いするのでは「安心感」が違ってくるのではないかと考えていて、996型、997型を所有する上で役に立つであろう基本的な知識を得ることが出来ればと思い購入した次第です。
また、実際に自分が所有した際に、出来るだけ早い段階でトラブルに気付くためにも情報は頭に入れておいたほうがいいと考えています。
内容としてはジャッキアップ、オイル交換などの基本的な作業から始まり、ベルトやセンサー類の交換、足回りの整備、更にはこれは自分の手でやることはないだろうという「エンジンの分解」にまで及んでおり、なかなかに濃い内容の一冊になっています。
基本的には996型、997型前期を対象とした内容になっていますが、エンジンを除けば997型後期にも応用が利く内容のようです。（997型後期ではエンジンが新開発のものに変わっているので）
ボルトの位置や作業のコツなども写真付きで解説されていて非常に分かりやすいので、もし自分が996型、997型を購入しメンテナンスを行う場面に遭遇したなら「この本でも見ながらやってみるか」と思わせる内容ではありますが、必要となる専門工具や整備に費やす時間を考えると、プロにお任せするのがやはりベターなのかもしれません。
とはいえ、かつて「自動車工学」という本を読み、自動車整備士に憧れた時期もあった僕にとって、ひとつの読み物として大変興味深く楽しい一冊で、新しいツールを揃えてみようかと思わせてくれるほど素晴らしい内容でした。
この本以外にもポルシェに関する書物はたくさん発行されており、機会があればいろいろ読んでみようと思っています。

However, I read a book called "Automotive Engineering" and longed to be an auto mechanic before, I found it to be a very interesting and enjoyable read, and the content was so good that it made me think about getting some new tools.
